My sister is famous for her Christmas mix cds in our family. The 2010 mix had the GLEE version of O holy night which includes the lesser known later part. In my car at a stoplight, I cry every time singing it… no joke… no matter that the trucker in the next lane is laughing at me. The underlined section has been running through my head and the recurring theme in our celebration all season long.
- O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
- It is the night of our dear Savior's birth.
- Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
- 'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
- A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
- For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
- Fall on your knees! O hears the angels' voices!
- O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
- O night divine, O night, O night Divine.
- Truly He taught us to love one another;
- His law is love and His gospel is peace.
- Chains shall His break for the slave is our brother;
- And in His name all oppression shall cease.
- Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise us,
- Let all within us praise His holy name.
- Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
- His power and glory evermore proclaim.
- His power and glory evermore proclaim.
