Today is Lily's 2 week birthday.

Jeff and I are adjusting to being parents. Even after 2 weeks, its still bizarre and surreal. I've realized that this is because the version of me responsible for most of my inner dialog still has long, ratty hair, pumpkin teeth, and a wardrobe comprised entirely of t-shirts tucked into windshorts (ideal for cartwheeling). It was super weird saying, "I need to make an appt. for my DAUGHTER," the other day. How can I be a wife and a mom when I rarely feel truly grown up?

Lily teased us with one night of sleeping in her carseat inside Jeff's cradle by our bed. I felt like an average first time mom that night. I slept for 3 hours at a time and woke up to feed her, then went to sleep again. Since then, we're back to holding her all night catching 30 minutes of sleep intermittently throughout the night... and exploring the explanations of colic or reflux. Even when crying or suffering from a clogged tear duct, however, she's still the cutest thing we've ever seen.

The jury is still out on who she looks like. We definitely think she'll end up looking more Olson than Kimmel... except for her little nose... which I am convinced is Suzanne's.

On a different note...
For those of you who remember Suzanne, my cousin Kristin, and I forming the ALMOST legendary "Anthony Michael Hall Monitors" and are now following the World Series of Pop Culture on VH1 at 8:00. My attitude now is that I am quite glad actually that we didn't make it. Although a trip to NY would have been nice, Lily might have been harmed by the heart condition brought on by lights and a microphone and making a fool of myself was inevitable. I enjoy shouting out (most of) the answers from a comfortable distance on the couch. The team that beat us in the final four in Austin, Westerburg High, just got out in the last round. I was hoping they would win... but really I'm just hoping anyone but 'Team Motherboy' wins. They won in Austin and we remember them being super annoying. When we came out after losing in the final four, I remember them doing stretches in their black boots over their jeans and offering insincere condolences. Maybe that's where we went wrong... should have been doing some lunges between matches to keep our synapses firing.

Oh my gosh, I laughed so hard reading your post. Thanks, I needed a good laugh. That picture of Lily curled up by the Boppy is so cute. She is really precious. Let me tell you what everyone told me (and in my mind I said "yeah, whatever")--it does get better and Lily will sleep through the night one day!

I was pulling for Westerburg High, too. Team Motherboy's performance last night has me thinking they could make it to the finals. They are well on their way of knocking Amy Henry (of Apprentice fame) out of the spot as Austin's most famous D-list celebrity. They'll probably end up signing autographs at some Kohl's or Rooms to Go grand opening in town.

My pick: Twisted Mister (or possibly Three Men and a Little Lazy)

Shauna, Lily is too precious!! Congrats on your little one! Suzanne is keeping me posted on everything...I know that things will get easier. And I am trusting you will have some advice for me when I need it in 2 months! Enjoy every minute! Keep the pictures coming...

Shauna, Lily is beautiful. It was so fun getting to read through your adventures of being pregnant and now see the adorable little girl that is now forever yours. Congratulations!

Lily is just too precious! I can't quite put a finger on who she looks like; several of her pictures remind me of Jonah (Yoda) when he was a newborn.

Suzanne is right; the sleepless nights will, one day, come to an end, and then you can feel human again. Enjoy holding and snuggling her while you can. They grow up too fast.

Love and miss you,
Jenni

I can't believe I just found out today that you had updated. I had been checking.Lily is beautiful. That inner image picture you painted of yourself was quite interesting. I know that little girl and she is a lot of fun and going to make a great mom. It seems a little late for me to make a comment on the PoP CuLtUre but I guess I will go ahead. I thought your name was clever and ya'll were a way classier group than The Motherboys. I really didn't think the black boots added much.

Hi--this is Lizzie from Team Motherboy. I'm glad your baby is doing well; she's really beautiful. I hate to think that you guys thought we were insincere; we actually loved your team shirts and your name (much more clever than the umpteenth Cobra Kai, I might add...) and predicted that ya'll would be one of the wildcards chosen (of course a tough choice between Westerburg High because we had a good match with them.) I remember our nerves had us pretty jangled as we were about to head into that final match, but we really did feel badly for you guys as we watched you come out--I think we felt a connection to you since we saw you in the lobby that first day and because you were three normal ladies. Anyway, I just wanted to stick up for Motherboy--obviously I'm too sensitive even for D-list celebritydom but we are nice ladies and we would have enjoyed seeing you in NYC; it looks like you had much more important business to attend to. :) Congratulations!

P.S. Are ya'll going to try out again next year? You should--hey, it worked for Wocka Wocka!
